History/Launch |
In Jan uary
1998, the University of Technology launched its Cultural Programme. The
UTech Centre for the Arts was later formally established to fulfill the
need for a link with Art, Science and Technology. The Cultural Programme
embodies the desire of the President of the University of Technology,
Jamaica, Dr. Rae Davis:
With the synergy of culture and
technology we can hope to produce a generation with the consciousness,
confidence, competence courage and, of course, the will to make change.
The Centre continues to be the beacon
of this “synergy of culture and technology” being pursued by Dr. Davis,
and it has grown tremendously since its inception. The UTech Centre for
the Arts is housed – for the time being – in one of the University’s
beautiful heritage buildings. Strategically situated in the centre of
the University campus, the Centre for the Arts has become like a nexus
linking the arts and technology, and adding its own creative flair to
the life and the humanities at the University.
