Dear Arq. Lorena Tezano,
Academic coordinator, School of Architecture

On behalf of The Caribbean School of Architecture (CSA), we write to thank your President Dr. Gustavo Batista and Director of the School of Architecture

Arq. Vencian Ben Gil for hosting our fourth year students during their Study Tour of The Colonial City in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

The UNIBE organized events were informative and allowed for physical orientation and critical socialization between students of architecture.

The one-day intervention workshop/charrette for the Cultural Center project was a success. The focus on a specific site allowed CSA along with UNIBE students to distil their urban morphological readings of The Colonial City.

The exchange and group dynamic presented varied contextual projections of Contemporary Caribbean spaces and circumstances with respect to a historical frame. An invaluable architectural discourse between the cultural diversity of our region.

Of critical resource was Arq. Giovanna Riggio and Arq. Maribel Villalona.

We extend an invitation for continued conversation and look forward to your visit to Kingston, Jamaica.

With regard,
Arq. Jacquiann Lawton

Dear Arch. Jaquiann Lawton,

On behalf of Dr. Gustavo Batista, President of Universidad Iberoamericana, and Arq. Vencian Ben Gil, Dean of the School of Architecture, we formally thank you as well as the professors and students of the Caribbean School of Architecture of the University of Technology of Jamaica, for choosing us to share and exchange general ideas about our architecture and designs.

The past month's exchange allowed our professors and students to thoroughly comprehend the urban and architectural characteristics of Jamaica, as well as its city visions, the color of its culture and the warmth of its people.

One of the most significant activities for us was the one-day intervention workshop at the Colonial City. This experience allowed us to exchange ideas and different ways to see architecture and city, searching for a balance in the different ways to define a project. The final outcome of the workshop revealed that even though we come from different cultures and schools, we all share a great sensibility to a historical and cultural patrimony.

Personally we believe that your visit provided an exceptional richness, because it allowed two different schools of architecture of the Caribbean to share ideas about our commitment to “do architecture” and revitalize our environments.

We sincerely hope to continue enhancing our mutual exchange, with this being only the beginning of a strong relationship between our two schools.

Thank you again for choosing UNIBE as your hostess, and for giving us the opportunity to guide your stay and share ideas and knowledge.

Yours sincerely,

Arch. Lorena Tezanos
