of the Built Environment have established the E. Nadine Isaacs
Memorial Lecture Series which seeks to recognize
and commemorate the life and work of one the most outstanding
contributors to the disciplines of architecture and the built
environment.
"She was a well-rounded person with a sense of humour
and a sense of responsibility," said Joan Panton, a sister of the
late E. Nadine Isaacs. "She was concerned about the environment and
shelter which was her focus. Nadine was the recipient of the
Jamaican Government Scholarship to attend Carleton University,
Ontario Canada where pursued studies a Bachelor of Architecture.
Upon graduation, she worked with the government in designing homes
for people who could not provide one for their family. These were
her main focus throughout her life and certainly the belief that we
are all here to serve our fellow man," added Panton.
Dr. Elizabeth Pigou-Dennis, Acting Head of the
Caribbean of School of Architecture, said during her illness, Isaacs
was courageous and maintained her sense of humor. She said that
Isaacs, during her tenure as head of the Caribbean School of
Architecture, brought to the university the ability to interpret the
administrative issues which arose as the institution made its
transition to university status and established its school of
architecture.
The Caribbean School of Architecture and the
University routinely invites a distinguished academic or
practitioner to deliver the E. Nadine Isaacs Memorial Lecture.
The Memorial Lecture will be held biannually at the Caribbean School
of Architecture, University of Technology, Jamaica, Kingston,
Jamaica
