Director's Message
Welcome
the Accounting Division of the School of Business
Administration. Given the recent happenings in the accounting
field, an accounting degree now receives a lot more prominence
than it did before. Our programme offers a curriculum of the highest
quality, and is one of the largest at the
University. We are committed to preparing students to meet the challenges
which lay ahead.
"The harder you study, the easier your exams will be!"
Best
Regards,

levels.

About the Programme
The
Accounting Programme is the largest programme within the
School of Business Administration of the Faculty of Business
and Management. The Programme currently offers a Bachelor’s
degree in Business Administration (B.B.A.), featuring a major
in Accounting under two modalities:the regular 4-year full-time or 5-year
part-time B.B.A.
In
addition to providing upper-level specialized accounting
courses in the B.B.A. degree, the Programme also delivers
lower-level accounting courses in years 1 and 2 which form a
part of the business core requirement for all B.B.A. students.
In addition, the Programme offers lower-level accounting
courses to other Schools within the University community.
PROFESSIONAL EXAMINATIONS and POSTGRADUATE STUDIES
The B.B.A.
in Accounting allows students to gain exemptions from subjects
in the lower levels of the UK-based Association of Certified
Chartered Accountants’ (ACCA) Professional Examinations.
Students are also able to sit the U.S.A.-based Certified
Public Accountant (CPA) Examinations in selected states.
Upon
completion of the B.B.A. in Accounting, graduates are
qualified for entry into the Master’s of Science Programme (M.Sc.)
in Accounting at the University of the West Indies, Mona
Campus. Students would, however, have to pursue at least one
pre-qualifying course concurrently with their studies.
The
CPA, the ACCA and the M.Sc. in Accounting are all regarded as
equivalent entry requirements for admission to the Institute
of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ).
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Our
B.B.A. graduates have filled entry-level positions at the
major accounting firms in Jamaica as well as at other private
and public sector companies. Feedback from employees has been
commendable, offering special praise for the collective work
ethic of our graduates. The graduates of our Programme
