About the Subject Area
This
subject area provides academic support to programmes within
the School of Business Administration as well as to other
Schools within the University.
This
support is reflected in the numerous services courses which
are delivered to the various Schools primarily through General
Education courses.

Lower Level
ECO
1113 - Introduction to Microeconomics (3 credits, 45 Hours)
This
course introduces students to the theories of microeconomics
and enables them to apply economic principles in the analysis
of individual markets, industries and the behaviour of
individual decision-making units in the economy.
ECO
2012 - Introduction to Macro Economics (3 credits, 45 Hours)
This
course provides a basic introduction to the overall
functioning of an economy with special reference to small,
open economies such as those of the Caribbean.
Upper Level
ECO
3010 - Caribbean Economics Environment (3 credits, 45 Hours)
The
course seeks to help Third World undergraduate students in
general, but Caribbean students in particular to:

Understand
and appreciate why their economies are how they are;
·
Understand
the context (internal as well as external) within which their
economies operate in the latter’s bid to achieve a socially
acceptable quality-of-life for their people;
·
Critically
evaluate the policies and models (past and present)
implemented and/or being implemented to attain the overriding
objective of the economic growth and development of their
countries, internal as well as external balances, and;
·
Begin to
think of the kinds of models and policies that will, given the
circumstances of Caribbean the region, produce the desired
results
