The Programme Director’s Message
The
Electrical Programme is committed to the production of
graduates with the academic and social tools, that
allows them to integrate into industry and other
academic institutions in both Jamaican and international
arena. It is to this end that the programme continues to
work towards the strengthening of its certificate,
diploma and degree programmes. At the same time the
programme is working towards the introduction of Master
of Engineering with Language programmes.

The Bachelor of Electrical Engineering (abbreviated as
B. Eng (ELE))

Programme Description
The duration of the programme is four years, commencing
from successful completion of the Caribbean Advanced
Proficiency Examination (CAPE) Level-1(detailed
matriculation requirements shown below).
The programme is designed to ensure that the graduates
develop strong problem solving and analytical skills.
Additionally they are equipped to apply modern
information and communications technologies (ICTs) in
their respective fields.
There are three specialization options, viz: Power,
Communications and Instrumentations and Controls. The
first two years are common for all three options and
includes essential sciences, mathematics, ICTs,
communication and humanities. The advance courses in the
respective areas of specialization are offered in years
three and four.
Career Opportunities
Graduates of this programme are normally expected to
fill entry level Electrical Engineering positions in
industry with the ability to progress to higher levels
as experience is gained. Areas for employment in Jamaica
are numerous as graduates are easily and quickly
employed within large industrial concerns such as
Utility Companies (electricity, water), Bauxite,
Petroleum, and Manufacturing. Some graduates continue to
develop through employment at Electrical Consultancy
firms.
Programme Entry Requirement
Students will be admitted to the programmes on the basis
of:
Successful completion of Pre-requisite Course of Study
(PCS) with adequate GPA, OR GCE A’Level
Mathematics, Physics and one other relevant course,
OR six (6) CAPE Units including Physics Units I and
II, Mathematics Units I and II and two (2) other units
in science related courses, OR UTech Diploma
(with articulation) or equivalent. |
