Programme Title
Diploma in Electrical Engineering
Programme Code: EEDF1010
Programme Description
The first year of the
programme introduces students to fundamental principles
of electrical and mechanical engineering. Students are
also introduced to information technology as well as
other foundation courses such as mathematics and
communication.
The second year is common to all electrical students
with the exception of one subject peculiar to their
particular area of specialisation. In this year, all
students are introduced to each of the three areas of
electrical engineering offered by the School – Power,
Instrumentation & Control, and Electronics &
Communication. Further work in mathematics and
communication is also done in the second year.
In the final year of study, students are trained in
their areas of specialisation geared toward the
development of competence in the particular area. The
inclusion of a major project helps the student in the
development of skills in managing such activities. This
is coupled with training in industrial management.
All core courses are supported with relevant laboratory
work; in some instances industrial site visits may be
undertaken. These serve as a complement to the
theoretical aspects of the programme.
