PROGRAMME TITLE
Engineering Technician Certificate
PROGRAMME GOAL
The programme goal is to produce a technician
who is able to apply the requisite skills and
utilise current technologies.
PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION
The Engineering Technician Certificate programme
is designed as a six-semester programme. The
entry requirements are three CXC/GCE O’Level
subjects including Mathematics and English
Language plus a science or technical subject or

Two modes of study are offered:
*Industry Based (IB) mode and
*College Based (CB) mode
Industry Based (IB) Mode
In the IB mode the student must be employed
within a relevant engineering industry, to
ensure that competency is developed in the skill
option that s/he is pursuing. A liaison officer
from UTech will be responsible for the
monitoring of the students at the workplace to
ensure that they are developing the competencies
consistent with the objectives of the
programmes. Only UTech will certify the IB
students.
College Based (CB) Mode
In the CB mode the student receives his/her
industrial practice component through NTEI. This
component is based on the development of
specific competencies and is more skill
intensive than in the IB mode.
In this mode some of the academic components
will be delivered at NTEI by NTEI staff. The
certification of the college-based mode will be
a joint UTech/NTEI certificate.
