It is my pleasure to welcome you to the Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies.
The Faculty has a long, rich tradition of preparing teachers for secondary and some tertiary institutions, having evolved out of the Department of Technical Education offering Diploma courses in Business Education, Industrial Technology and Home Economics to the present structure comprising the School of Technical & Vocational Education (SOTAVE) and the Department of Liberal Studies. Currently, the School offers programmes in Business and Computing, Family and Consumer Studies and Industrial Technology leading to the Bachelor of Education TVET. The Department of Liberal Studies enhances the curricula in all Faculties of the University by delivering courses in the languages, communication and the humanities.
We pride ourselves in being the Faculty that offers the most graduate programmes. Currently we offer a Post Graduate Diploma in Education, the MSc. in Workforce Education and Development, the M.Ed in Educational Management and Leadership and the MA in International Service in conjunction with the University of Roehampton in England. Soon we hope to add a Masters in Technical and Vocational Education which is currently being developed.
The Faculty has extended its reach to the wider Caribbean community with programmes offered in Antigua, Grenada, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Kitts and the Bahamas. Other programmes to be delivered by mixed modalities – distance and face to face – are currently being explored.
We are proud to have a cadre of professionals dedicated to student centered learning and excellence and we look forward to working with you to develop your full potential in the pursuit of your academic goals.
Best wishes.
Haldane Johnson, Ph.D
