RESEARCH INTEREST

I am Currently enrolled in the MPhil/PhD Cultural Studies Programme at the University of the West Indies. My focus area is Female Sexuality. Research Topic: Everyday Meanings, Myths and Taboos and the Female Body: A Grounded Theory Exploration of Female Sexuality in the Jamaican Experience.

Objectives: The study has two broad objectives. Firstly it seeks to explore and present a reading of the everyday social meanings, perceptions, myths and taboos associated with female sexuality? private and public? within a contradictory moral and political battle space in the contemporary Jamaican experience. Secondly the study aims at developing substantive mid range theories `grounded' in the data collected, that will provide a framework for critically assessing the phenomenon, female sexuality, and provide a basis for considering how what is unknown about female sexuality in the Jamaican society might be organized.
