COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Bachelor of Pharmacy course (B.Pharm) seeks to train individuals to become competent and compassionate health-care professionals with a commitment to the welfare of patients. The degree course emphasizes the acquisition of current knowledge and skills to enable graduates to meet the demands of society's health care needs as they relate to the pharmacy practice. It also provides a sound foundation for graduates to pursue further educational and professional qualifications.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

In addition to finding job opportunities as pharmacists in private and public institutions, graduates can also obtain employment as managers of pharmaceutical manufacturing operations, medical representatives for drug companies, agents of pharmacy and drug regulation in the Ministry of Health, medical consultants and researchers.

COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Applicants should satisfy the following qualifications or have reached an appropriate standard by an alternative route:

1) "A"-level passes in Chemistry and one other from among Biology, Zoology, Physics or Mathematics; five passes at CXC General Proficiency at Grades 1, 2 (or 3 after June 1998) or GCE "O" Level (Grades A, B or C) in English Language, Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry and at least one other science subject.

Note: Passes in GCE or CXC subjects should be obtained in not more than TWO sittings.

OR

2) Other appropriate level of study in a recognized educational institution.

Candidates using this route must supply documentary evidence of academic transcripts and certified copies of curricula studied.

All selected applicants must attend an interview.
