COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Child Care and Development course attempts to stimulate graduates to develop new insights into child development that can be applied to improve the adaptation, health and well-being of children. The aims of this course are to provide the tools for stimulating or facilitating growth and equipping graduates with the skills necessary to set up effective childcare agencies or institutions. This course would be beneficial to graduates seeking to pursue further education and professional qualifications in healthcare or other related fields.

 

COURSE GOALS & OBJECTIVES

The course is designed to prepare graduates to:

1. To create an awareness of the physical, social and mental development stages of children.

2. To examine those factors which influence growth.

3. To develop techniques which help the child to achieve optimum development.

4. To create an awareness of the needs of the children.

5. To train personnel in Child Care Agencies.

 

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES

Graduates of the course provide care and education for pre school age children mainly in education departments but also in government and private sector, social services and leisure departments. Some go on to set up their own nurseries, or move in to related areas such as education teachers or special needs advisor or social services (care assistant).

Graduates find work in schools, nurseries, children’s homes, crèches, play schemes, playgroups, health and family centres.

 

COURSE ENTRY REQUIREMENT

The selection of the students to the course is within the discretion of the University. The applicants should satisfy the following academic requirements or have reached an appropriate standard.
¨ A minimum of three GCE O’Level A, B & C or general Proficiency Levels 1, 2 & 3 including English Language, Mathematics, and one other subject and work experience.

In addition applicants must pass a final selection interview
