This web page provides information for all students who may qualify to attend the Graduation Ceremonies, to be held Saturday November 1, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the National Arena and Saturday November 8, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at the Montego Bay Convention Centre.


Persons who have outstanding balances will be asked to pay these balances in addition to the registration fee.

Graduates are required to pay the registration fee  by Debit or Credit Card (Visa/MasterCard/KeyCard), Managers cheque or cash at Accounts Receivables.

As Associate Vice President, Advancement with responsibility for Alumni Relations, I and Miss Cheryll Messam, our Alumni Relations Manager, feel truly privileged to be among the first to congratulate you on achieving this significant milestone of becoming a graduate of the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech).  You are now part of a remarkable history and a fine tradition of excellence. UTech has so much to be proud of and all of which is made possible by the support from each member of the UTech family. However, we take special pride in the accomplishments of you our Graduating Class of 2014.

We are honoured that you chose to be a part of the UTech family and we in the Alumni Relations Office, look forward to journeying with you in this next stage of your personal and professional development, post graduation. Our mission is three fold: to connect our alumni to each other to ensure networking benefits for personal, professional and business development; to connect our alumni to the University to build UTechís volunteer, donor and advocacy capacity; and to connect our alumni to our current student body, so that our students are connected with persons who can inspire them to overcome challenges, attain seemingly elusive goals and achieve success!

The Alumni Association, UTech and the Alumni Chapters in Florida and New York are key organizations committed to providing you with networking support. The various alumni groups have been strong and effective supporters of UTech and annually have provided support through scholarships for students; job search opportunities for fellow alumni; and donation of equipment and other resources. Graduates who did not attend the ceremony may collect their certificate as of December 08, 2014 from the Student Records Office, Main Administration Building, upon presentation of a valid driverís licence, national I.D. or passport.

A processing fee of $2,000.00 must be paid at the Accounts Department before the collection of your Certificate

The 2013/14 UTech ID card will be accepted until the end of December 2014.


  • Graduates are required to wear gowns at the Graduation Ceremony.

  • Papine Campus: Gowns are to be collected at the Faculty of the Built Environment Conference Room, (Ground Floor, Caribbean School of Architecture), during the registration period.

    Gowns should be returned to the designated area at the National Arena
    immediately after the ceremony.

  • Western Campus: Gowns are to be collected at the Western Campus during registration on October 17-18, 2014.
    Gowns should be returned to the designated area at the Montego Bay Convention Centre immediately after the ceremony.

  • Thereafter, the amount to be refunded will be forfeited.

  • Graduates are required to bring their receipt as proof of payment. No refunds will be made without the presentation of the receipt. When the gowns are returned in good condition, the deposit, less the administrative costs, will be refunded.


Dress Code

The Congregation for the Presentation of Graduates is formal and graduates to be presented to the Chancellor are required to follow the dress code for the ceremony, that is the University Graduate Gown with appropriate Hood. The wearing of corsage & boutonnieres is not permitted.

 Bachelor's, Master's, PHD Degree graduates are required to wear Hoods.


Strictly - Modest White dresses (other colours are not permitted.)


Strictly - Dark Lounge Suits. The wearing of T-shirts and jeans is prohibited.


The Graduation Ceremony

Graduates will be required to assemble at the National arena at 8:00 a.m. in the designated area in preparation for the procession. Marshals will place you in alphabetical order. Graduates are to remain in place once they have been checked by the marshals.






Graduation Guests

Each graduate will be allowed to bring two guests to the ceremony. Tickets must be collected at registration, and presented for entry to the ceremony. Guests with tickets will be seated first.


Graduation Charges

A deposit must be paid at registration as follows:

Rehearsals will be held on:

  • Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. at the National Arena. 
  • Thursday, November 06, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at the Montego Bay Convention Centre 
  • Please be on time.


Receiving Certificate Photographs

The official photographer assigned to the University is Bryan Studios Limited. Only the official photographer will be allowed to take photographs during the ceremony. No portraits will be taken on Graduation Day.

Bryan Studio Ltd.
will be at Faculty of the Built Environment Conference Room(Ground Floor, Caribbean School of Architecture) on October 4, 2014. However, before and after this date, photo packages will be will be taken at the Studio.

For Montego Bay: Bryan Studio Ltd.
will be at Western Campus from October 17-18, 2014. (9:00 am - 3:00pm)


The Graduation Photo Package will consist of twenty (20) photographs consisting of:

  • 1 - 8 x 12 photograph receiving your certificate on stage.
  • 1 - 5 x 7 enlargement
  • 2 - 4x6
  • 16 - wallets

Packages will be done at Bryan Studios Ltd. up on presentation of payment vouchers and by appointments only.

Make-up for Portraits

Make-up will also be available at the studio payments for which must be made at the studio.

Late Arrival For Ceremony

For an orderly ceremony, we request that you observe the following:

  • If you arrive after the start of the procession of graduates, you must sit in the audience.
  • Your name will not be called.

However, you will be able to collect your certificate after the ceremony.


  • Only registered graduates will be permitted to participate in the ceremony.
  • All outstanding obligations to the University must be cleared prior to registration.

    Owing to limited seating, attendance at the 2014 Graduation Ceremony is limited to:

    1. Members of the 2014 Graduating Class who are duly registered
    2. Guests of graduates with appropriate tickets (each graduate is allowed to invite 2 guests)
    3. Members of the University Council
    4. Members of The Academic Board
    5. Faculty/staff who are processing
    6. Faculty/staff not processing but who have confirmed their attendance in advance and show their UTech ID at the entrance
    7. Specially invited guests with invitations
    8. Accredited workers


    Important Reminders

    1. No one will be allowed in the Arena/MBCC without proper pass
    2. Family members/friends without a ticket will NOT be allowed onto the premises.  Graduands are asked to prevent embarrassment to their party by discouraging them from seeking to attend the ceremony without an appropriate pass.  
    3. Guests are discouraged from taking babies/very young children to the ceremony as no special arrangement is made to accommodate them. 
    4. Each person (including children) is required to have a ticket and will be given a seat.  No individual will be allowed to enter the venue without a ticket regardless of age.
    5. All guests are asked to be seated by 8:30 am.
    6. Guests are required to remain seated during the procession which starts at 9:30 am
    7. Ticketed guests arriving during the procession will have to wait until after the procession to be seated.  Please note that seats cannot be guaranteed after the procession
