Library Information System & Outreach Services (LISOS)

This division was established to centralize all information systems related matters in the library and to deal with special projects that the library undertakes to expand its services to meet the demands of a dynamic community.

In a joint effort with the Information Systems Department, LISOS has managed the drive to acquire a Library Information Management System for which implementation should begin by January 2004.

 The division is also responsible for the 28-computer station Cyber Lab, access to databases subscribed to by the Library and internet access. The Cyber lab facilitates access to online and portable databases, the Internet and word processing. Training sessions are available for faculty, staff and students on database searching.  

Other activities of the division includes the coordination of the Orientation Programme offered to first year students and the teaching of the literature search component of the Research Methods course offered to third years. All library related exhibitions are coordinated by the division.

The division coordinates the activities of the Service points, namely, Faculty of Health Offsite campus, CSA Documentation Service and the Drug Information Service.

The Library participates in a Field Work attachment programme, to provide work experience and professional exposure for students of the Department of Library and Information Studies, UWI. Mona, as well as those in the Library Technical Assistants programme at the Excelsior Community College.
