Conference
The University of
Technology, Jamaica (UTech) will be the host and principal co-sponsor of
the 8th UNESCO International Centre for Engineering Education (UICEE)
annual conference on engineering education set for the Pegasus Hotel, in
Kingston, February 7 –11, 2005.
The conference under the theme: Bringing
Engineering Educators Together, seeks to bring together
partners, members, associates, students and supporters of the UICEE from
all over the world to further discussions on issues of importance to
engineering education. It also provides an opportunity to strengthen the
UICEE’s links and networks and set the stage for more innovative and
collaborative ventures on a global basis.
The theme: Bringing Engineering
Educators Together, was chosen to facilitate personal interaction
between academics involved in engineering education, to identify and
present best collaborative programmes and projects, as well as examples
relevant to the main theme. There will also be the opportunity to address
issues of concern and to discuss the status and quality of global
engineering education. Conference speakers will address a wide range of
aspects of engineering education including: Effective methods of
engineering education; Innovation and alternatives in engineering
education; Multimedia and the Internet in engineering education and
Research and development in engineering education in Jamaica and the West

by Dr Rae Davis and Dr Gossett Oliver of the University of Technology,
Jamaica that makes A case for the legitimization of various levels of
engineering competencies under the Professional Engineering Registration
Board (PERB) Act, Jamaica 1981.
Keynote speakers are well-known
international experts on engineering and technology education and several
papers will be presented by professionals in engineering education. The
UICEE will present its Outstanding Paper Awards to authors of papers
included in the volume of Conference Proceedings. The winners will be
chosen by popular vote of Conference participants for offering the most
significant contribution to the field of engineering education
The Hon. Maxine Henry-Wilson, Minister of
Education, Youth and Culture will address the gathering at the opening
ceremony on Tuesday, February 8, 2005 at the Pegasus Hotel and there will

Engineering at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia in 1994, on the
recommendation of the then UNESCO International Committee on Engineering
Education. The Centre is also the Secretariat for the International
Liaison Group for Engineering Education (ILG-EE).
Dr Rae Davis, President, University of
