Arrival Allowance
This is a one off
cost that includes travelling from the airport and settling in costs.
Settling costs may include small personal and household items that a
student may need. If a student arrives in Jamaica using the Norman
Manley International Airport, prior arrangements can be made with the
International Students Office for transportation, at no cost to the
student. If students choose to make their own arrangements, JUTA taxis
are the recommended carrier, average cost to UTech is US$25.00 and may
be less if students travel in groups.
Vacation Allowance
This is also a one
off cost and refers to additional expenses likely to be incurred by a
student during school breaks and short holidays e.g. Easter break.
Special Equipment
Special Equipment
may be required by some students and may vary according to the course of
study. Please note that this does not include the cost of a “lap-top”
which is a necessity for some programmes. Computing students must have a
laptop; this is sourced and purchased by the School of Computing on
behalf of the students. Cost to the student is US$1000.00; no
special equipment is required for Engineering students.
Learning
Material
This includes
textbooks, laboratory materials, costs of all other material for class
work and assignments. Again, costs will vary according to programme of
study.
Learning material
for Engineering students is approximately US$800.00.
Students in the
Faculty of Education and Liberal Studies will incur additional expenses
of US$350.00. This is specifically for two (2) weeks Team
teaching in Year 3 and eight (8) weeks of Teaching Practice in Semester
2 of year 4. This will cover transportation, charts, photocopies and
appropriate work attire.
