Network and Operating Systems Manager

The University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech, Jamaica) seeks to identify suitable candidates to fill the following posts in the Division of Technology & Information Management:

 

Network And Operating Systems Manager (Level 10)

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Networks and Operating Systems Manager is responsible for planning, implementing, augmenting, documenting, maintaining, and optimizing the University’s Information Technology infrastructure.  She/he is also responsible for directing and coordinating activities associated with its daily operation. This infrastructure includes wired access points, routers and switches that interconnect at our Papine campus along with offsite campuses.  The infrastructure is also comprised of Internet Links, Databases, Storage Appliances, Servers, Staff computers and IP Telephony systems.    

 

ACADEMIC REQUIREMENTS:

The successful candidate should possess:

 

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent qualifications.
  • First Degree in Computer Studies (Honors or equivalent desirable) with a major in Information Technology or in Electrical Engineering with a major in Electronics or Telecommunications.
  • Cisco/Microsoft certified
  • at least five (5) years’ experience in computer or network operations, or programming, including two (2) years in a supervisory role.

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Working knowledge of and experience with Gigabit Network Topography
  • Knowledge of Telephony Standards and protocols inclusive of SIP, H323 etc.
  • Working knowledge of and experience with Gigabit Network Topography.
  • Working knowledge of database management and security
  • Good knowledge of major Operating Systems including but not limited to Linux, UNIX and Microsoft Windows. 
  • Excellent knowledge of VMware, Virtual desktops Storage Area Networks and other Computer hardware and software configuration, installation and operation.
  • Working knowledge of VOIP Telephony equipment, configuration, and   operation.
  • Knowledge of communication application and telecommunication network
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good project management and time management skills.
