About the College

 

The College of Oral Health Sciences is a significant contributor to oral health knowledge and practice in Jamaica through the training of individuals for the dental workforce as well as though its commitment to and extensive practice of voluntary, pro bono community dental service. Students are exposed to the application of theoretical and practical approaches to dentistry which provides them with a broad perspective of their role as dental health professionals in a developing country.

The College of Oral Health Sciences offers BSc. Programmes in Dental Laboratory Technology, Dental Nursing Therapy and Dental Hygiene; Diploma in Dental Assisting (Expanded Function) and the Doctor of Medical Dentistry (DMD).

COURSES OF STUDY

Bachelor of Science in Dental Nursing/Therapy
Entry Requirements: 5 GCE “O” Level (A, B, or C passing), or CXC level (1, 2, or 3) June 1998 and after.  
Compulsory Subjects:  English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and any other approved subject.
In addition applicants are required to:

  1. Submit a medical certificate (physical, dental, ophthalmic)
  2. Be age 17 and over
  3. Attend an interview and satisfy the selection committee regarding suitability for entrance to the Dental Nurse course of study.

Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene
Entry Requirements:  5 GCE “O” Level (A, B, or C passing), or CXC level (1, 2, or 3) June 1998 and after.
