Message from The University President

Professor Morrison It is my pleasure to extend warmest welcome to our resident students for the 2008/9 Academic Year. At UTech we place a very high value on the welfare and well being of our entire student population and we are committed to the continuous improvement and upgrading of academic offerings as well as to the physical infrastructure and facilities.

There is a very high demand for student housing both on and off the campus and we are working to strengthen our capacity to provide comfortable accommodation and facilities to satisfy this growing demand. Currently the residential facilities accommodate three hundred and ninety five (395) students. We have identified land to build new housing to accommodate additional students and plans are now far advanced for the start of construction.

During the last academic year, we were able to make some substantial improvements to the existing physical facilities and amenities on the halls of residence so that they can be operated at full capacity. Some of this work included completion of renovation and repair work on the Lomé Halls (Blocks A, B, E, F) and Garvey Hall. Additionally, as an added security measure, since September 2006, students entering all dorms are required to use swipe cards for access.

I implore our students to be good custodians of the facilities and amenities that are provided on your halls of residence, so that they will be preserved for use by future students. Please read your Halls of Residence Handbook carefully and make yourselves fully aware of the rules and policies governing residential housing. I encourage you to take a very responsible approach to your personal security both on and off the campus. Our Safety and Security Office is always ready and available to help you with any concerns you may have.I also encourage all our students to actively participate in the various campus and hall activities that will enhance your overall university experience. Welcome to the UTech campus and do enjoy your resident campus experience.

- Professor The Hon. Errol Morrision, O.J.
