Equus

Artist: Dr. Lance Bannister (Barbadian)

The artist describes Equus as his attempt to “convert discarded material mainly from automobiles into works of art”.

Accordingly, he has maintained the appearance and function of each of the automobile parts that make up the sculpture, for e.g. a piston looks like a hoof; in a car it creates power, in the horse it symbolizes the power from the horse to the road.

The horse is represented in a leaping position and the artist says this signifies that as technology increases, we the members of the university community, the country and the world will develop along with it. It has also been specially constructed to allow the horse to rotate 360 degrees.

The artist‘s intent is that the piece “will serve as an educational tool and inspiration to others especially the youth”.
