PROGRAMME DESCRIPTION

The Pharmacy Technician course of study at the University of Technology, Jamaica, is designed for motivated individuals who intend and desire to advance their educational and professional career in pharmacy.  As a tertiary level certification, the content of the University of Technology’s technician course complements practice experience and fosters a high level of competence and autonomy. 

The course of study includes extensive didactic and experiential training that will enable graduates to develop analytical and problem-solving skills and the ability to translate theoretical knowledge to meet the requirements of pharmacy technicians in Jamaica and the Region.

It is designed to prepare students for entry-level pharmacy technician positions in both hospital and community pharmacy settings to perform technical duties under the supervision of a practicing registered pharmacist. Students will be provided with the necessary training required to effectively fulfil the duties outlined by the Ministry of Health, Jamaica and meet the requirements specified for registration from the Pharmacy Council of Jamaica.


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

1. To qualify for entry into the Certificate Pharmacy Technician course of study,
applicants should possess a minimum of 4 GCE O’Level A, B or C or CXC/CSEC General Proficiency Level I-II (I-III since 1998) or a combination of both.

2. Applicants must possess the subjects Mathematics, English, Chemistry and any other science related subject.  Selection interviews will be conducted.

3. Applicants should display, professional attitude, good written and oral skills, ability to operate in a team, dependable, customer-service oriented, and pay attention to details.

4.  All applications should be  accompanied by proof of academic qualifications.
