Dear Student:
It is with much pleasure that I welcome you to the University of Technology, Jamaica. If you are a new student, I hope that you are even more convinced that you have made the right choice. If you are a continuing student, I welcome you back and trust that you have resolved to continue on the path of success towards completion your graduation requirements.
We are happy to have you and trust that the 2011/2012 academic year will be among your most memorable.
In 2009/2010 the University implemented a fully semesterised system in an effort to provide students with some degree of flexibility in pursuing their courses of study. Now in its third year, new aspects of the semester model are being implemented and will affect students entering their third year. We hope that the transition will be seamless.
The University is aware of the continuing harsh economic but is also aware of the resolve our students have to obtain a tertiary education. One advantage of this system is that it enables students who are not on fixed “diets” to sit the number of modules for which they are able to pay subject to the relevant regulations.
If you commenced a new course of study in academic year 2008/2009 and are now entering your final year you will continue to be on your fixed “diet” and your enrollment and registration remain unchanged.
I must take this opportunity to remind you that payment of fees is a pre-requirement for enrollment and registration. Please ensure that your registration is completed before the close of the period.
The Enrolment Steps as text and in an instructional video are on the UTech website for you to view before you begin enrolling. On the website there is also an Enrolment Facts and Procedures Manual; a listing of modules for your courses of study; and information on fees.
Enrolment began on July 11, 2011
I am encouraging you all to complete your enrollment and registration as early as possible before the August 26, 2011 when registration is scheduled to close.
Orientation Week will begin on Sunday August, 21, 2011. Please be sure to attend and to encourage your parent and/or spouses to be there on August 21 when the programme is especially for them.
Remember to go online and visit the ‘New and Returning Student Enrolment Information’ sections of the UTech website for information that will assist you as you commence the enrolment process.
I wish you all the best for a successful and rewarding year.
