Acting President's Updates on Operational Plans for Semester 2, Academic Year 2020-2021

The University Community is being advised of the following updates regarding operational plans for the start of Semester 2, Academic Year 2020/21. 

Academic Calendar, Semester 2

Please note that in Semester 2, teaching and learning will continue primarily via electronic platforms - mainly utilizing Blackboard Collaborate and Moodle for the delivery of online classes.   Kindly note the following dates below concerning enrolment and registration for Semester 2, Academic Year, 2020/2021.

January 6 – April 30, 2021

Duration of Semester 2

December 23, 2020 – January 22, 2021

Modules add/drop period

January 8, 2021

Final date for submitting Transfer of Credits and Module Exemptions to the Office of Admissions and Enrolment Management

January 29, 2021 

Census Date.  This is the final date by which students should have selected and confirmed modules and received financial clearance using the available payment options.

 

 

Campus Accommodation 

The University has restricted dormitory accommodation to one person per room. Physical distancing and other stipulations relating to COVID-19 will continue to be observed in keeping with protocols outlined by the Halls of Residence guided by the Ministry of Health and Wellness.

a)      Check-in for all resident students will be Tuesday, January 5, 2021, commencing at 9:00 a.m.  A check-in schedule will be sent to each resident.

b)      Residents will be asked to complete and return all forms provided to them, prior to check-in.

c)      Priority will be given to international students, students from rural Jamaica, students with three or more lab classes per week and students with peculiar difficulties in accessing the Internet, and other challenges referenced by the Counselling Unit.   

d)      The cost of accommodation for Semester 2 will remain as previously communicated for 2020/2021 as follows:

New residents, local                             -            J$103,193.75

New residents international                 -             US$1,482.50

 

 Returning students, local                       -            J$80,193.75

 Returning students, international         -             US$1, 212, 50.00

e)      Students whose courses of study require face-to-face and the use of laboratories and clinical activities will be allowed short term accommodation up to a week on a designated Hall of Residence, with cost determined by length of stay. 

f)       New and returning international students will be required to observe the quarantine period of 14 days in keeping with Government of Jamaica COVID-19 protocols. 

 Reminder re: Physical Distancing Protocols on all Campuses  

  • No more than 15 persons will be allowed to meet at any one place on Campus. 
  • Mask wearing is mandatory prior to entry and for the duration of time on Campus. 
  • Please expect a mandatory temperature check to be conducted on each person at the gate before entry to the Campus. Persons with an abnormal temperature reading will not be allowed on the Campus.
  • Hand sanitizing stations are located at the entry to buildings.  Please utilize them. 
  • Any room to be used for an event must be of a capacity to observe 6 feet distancing between the maximum 15 persons allowed.
  • Physical distancing is to be maintained at all times for the duration of your stay on the Campus even while traversing the Campus. 
  • Outside gathering/ meetings/events, including the car park and the Caribbean Sculpture Park is prohibited.
