Page 62 University of Technology, Jamaica ANNUAL REPORT 2015-2016 COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND MANAGEMENT The Faculty of Engineering and Computing concentrated on the consolidation and accreditation of its courses of study at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, strengthening its international partnerships and expanding its research capacity. The launch of the Waste Water Management Centre in March 2016 is testimony to the success of the research thrust. The Centre comprises three state of the art testing laboratories: Environmental Engineering, Microbiology/bio-technology and a special equipment laboratory. The primary function of the center is to support training and research in waste and biomass treatment and management, aligned to international ISO/ISE standards for Jamaica and the Caribbean region. ACADEMIC PROGRAMMES School of Engineering (SoE) The Electrical Engineering degree programme has been restructured and renamed the Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Computer Engineering. School of Computing and Information Tech- nology (SCIT) New Programmes The first cohort of students began their four-year studies in the Bachelor of Science in Animation Production and Development in August 2015. The new programme acknowledges the need for the university to train students to remain competitive in the global environment, and this course of study is in response to global growth in the animation industry and the increasing demand for animators both locally and internationally. Accreditation The University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) presented certification for accreditation, for the Bachelors in Computing (BSc) programme to the University in January 2016. The certificate was presented to the school on February 15, 2016. The BSc in Computing replaces the BSc in Computing and Information Technology.
