ENTREPRENEURIAL VENTURES Low Cost Pilot Building Management System to Alleviate Energy Crisis A Building Management System (BMS) is now in place at the School of Engineering. The BMS was a final year project led by Dr Dave D Muir, Lecturer, Instrumentation and Controls, School of Engineering, with final year students, Leon Harrison, Tanya Hylton, Kemal Ranger and David Richards and represents another major step in reducing the University’s energy costs and carbon footprint while ensuring the comfort of occupants. The BMS is responsible for turning lights on and off, adjusting the temperature of buildings as well as controlling the power switches of AC units. LOCAL AND INTERNATIONAL LINKAGES AND COLLABORATIONS Cooperation Agreement with Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE)/School of Engineering – UTech, Jamaica OLADE and the University of Technology, Jamaica (School of Engineering) signed an agreement for the training and certification of persons from Jamaica and other Caribbean territories in Energy Development and Social Inclusion. The programme was sponsored by OLADE and training sessions were conducted at UTech, Jamaica over a six-week period.
