Accredited by the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) ANNUAL REPORT 2018-2019 University of Technology, Jamaica 56 College of Oral Health Sciences New Course of Study The College developed and received approval for the offering of a short course in Chairside Dental Assisting to meet the growing demand for formal training in alignment with the thrust to improve health care services in Jamaica. The first cohort completed the course in March 2019. Revision of Syllabi Throughout the period under review, syllabus for the Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology (Dental Therapy) DEN 5006 was submitted for review and approval by the Curriculum Committee. CDCA/ADEX Examination y Students within the College continue to perform well in the overseas Commission on Dental Competency Assessments (CDCA)/American Dental Examination Board (ADEX). ADEX is a test development board serving member of state dental boards in developing valid and reliable initial licensure examinations in dentistry and dental hygiene. Jamaica is the first country outside of the United States mainland to become a member of the American Board of Dental Examiner (ADEX) organisation. Conference The Caribbean Institute for Strategic Planning and Research in Oral Health 7th International Scientific Symposium was held October 28-30, 2018 at the Knutsford Court Hotel. The theme of the conference was “Contemporary Trends in Pain Management, Dispelling the Myths, Evaluating the Evidence”. The Conference has contributed to staff development and continuing CEs for Dental Professionals. White Coat and Hooding Ceremony y The College of Oral Health Sciences hosted its 7th Annual White Coat Ceremony on November 6, 2018 for the Doctor of Medical Dentistry Year 3 students as well as the Dental Hygiene Year 2 students, indicating transition from pre-clinical to clinical modules within their respective courses of study.
