Accredited by the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) ANNUAL REPORT 2018-2019 University of Technology, Jamaica 60 New Courses of Study The Associate of Arts Degree in Image Consulting and Fashion Styling was approved by the Academic Board during the year to be offered by the School of Technical and Vocational Education. The Curriculum Committee of the Board of Undergraduate Studies also approved a Bachelor Science Degree in Entertainment Design, Production and Technology. Both degrees seek to benefit from the national thrust towards taking advantage of Jamaica’s advantage in the creative industries and are part of the strategic goal of the School to diversify its programme offerings to include non-teacher training degrees. They are scheduled to be offered for the Academic Year 2019/20. Accreditation The Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PDE) and the Master of Science in Workforce Training and Education were accredited by the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) during the period under review. Film Competitions Twenty-five Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts and Technology (BA CAT) students participated in Northern Caribbean University’s (NCU) 10th Annual Lignum Vitae Film Festival on Sunday April 22, 2018. BACAT student Derron Campbell film “Unintentional” screened at the 2018 World AIDS Day inaugural Red Fashion and Film Festival held put on by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation at the Courtleigh Auditorium on Saturday, December 1, 2018. Students from the programme also participated in Farquharson Hall’s Cinematic Film competition. The team comprising Rackqiesha Haven, Shakera Ferron, Jodiann Shepherd, Derron Campbell among others, placed first. Fashion Competition Six students from the Bachelor of Arts in Apparel Design, Production and Management (BAADPM) participated in the 2018 World AIDS Day inaugural Red Fashion and Film Festival put on by the AIDS Healthcare Foundation at the Courtleigh Auditorium on December 1, 2018. The student designers displayed fashion for a variety of occasions that communicated safer sex messages. UNESCO-UNEVOC Centre International Conference The UTech, Ja. UNESCO-UNEVOC Centre housed in the Faculty, hosted a two-day International Conference and Exhibition to mark World Food Day (October 16, 2018) and International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (October 17, 2018).
