Accredited by the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) ANNUAL REPORT 2018-2019 University of Technology, Jamaica 72 Dr. Garfield Young Dean Course of Study Name Change The BSc. in Land Economy and Valuation Surveying (LEVS) received a name change to BSc in Real Estate Management and Valuation (REMV) New Course of Study The MSC in Integrated Rural Development (MIRD) was launched on February 7, 2019 with its first cohort of students starting at the beginning of Semester 2 in academic year 2018/19. Accreditation The MSc Built Environment was accredited by the UCJ for four years. Short Courses • The Faculty hosted a Fire Prevention in Building Design Short Course done in collaboration with Karl Kaiser, expert from Germany: Thirty-six (36) persons from government agencies and NGOs across the island. • FOBE hosted the OAS funded Hazard Mitigation short course with 25 participants from across the region. It was delivered by expert, Balfour Spence from Canada. Annual Awards Function The Faculty’s Awards ceremony was held on April 11, 2019 in Lecture at the Shared Facilities Building. Special awards were presented to 90 students, of which twelve (12) were on the Dean’s list. Awards were also presented to two (2) distinguished members of staff who served the Faculty/School for a number of years in different capacities. The student of the year for CSA was Madison Powell and for SBLM, Stephlynn Mitchell. Public Lectures Inaugural George Blankson Memorial Lecture In honour of former SBLM Senior Lecturer and Programme Director of the Construction Engineering Division in the Faculty, the inaugural George Blankson Memorial Lecture was held on May 3, 2018. The lecture was delivered by Dr. Marva Blankson. Ruskin Punch Memorial Lecture, Speaker Architect Gordon Gill FAIA, October 10, 2018, University of Technology Jamaica. Architect Gordon Gill, FAIA Patron for the Houses of Parliament Competition, delivered the Ruskin Punch Memorial Lecture, on October 10, 2018 at the Papine Campus. • School of Building and Land Management • Caribbean School of Architecture Faculty of The Built Environment
