Accredited by the University Council of Jamaica (UCJ) ANNUAL REPORT 2018-2019 University of Technology, Jamaica 88 The Advancement Division plays a crucial role in driving the University’s Mission and Vision for institutional development and advancement in all areas of its operations. Despite fiscal constraints, the Division continues to provide timely and effective communication updates to increase awareness of University developments, strengthening of community and customer relations as well as fostering harmonious relations with stakeholders to stimulate interest and to engage support for the University through resource mobilization and activities by various offices or groups. The Advancement Division coordinated and supported a number of University-wide events and initiatives to promote institutional strengthening. These included official visits to the campus by local and international bodies/institutions and signing of a number of Memoranda of Understanding and collaborative arrangements with local and international organizations. 60th Anniversary Celebrations The Advancement Division led the execution of a series of events to mark the celebration of the University’s 60th anniversary as an institution. Launched in March 2018, the year of activities included a series of distinguished lectures, special concerts, an art exhibition and other special events. Distinguished guest lecturers included His Excellency Sir Patrick Allen, Governor General, the Most Honourable Edward Seaga, former Prime Minister and Chancellor. The University Choir and Mr. Ernie Smith, veteran Jamaican musician, also gave memorable performances at 60th Anniversary Concerts. The yearlong 60th Anniversary celebrations concluded on March 31, 2019 with a Thanksgiving Service at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
