24 SCHOLARSHIPS AND BURSARIES Scholarships and Bursaries are awarded annually mainly to full-time Jamaican nationals studying at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels. The application period for scholarships opens in May of each year, and the closing dates are as follows (unless otherwise stated): • July 30, of each year for Scholarships offered to (new) students in year 1. • June 30, of each year for Scholarships offered to (returning) students in years 2-4 Procedures for applying for Scholarships Candidates are required to complete an application form for submission along with the following: • Progress Report(s) for returning students. • CSEC/GCE, A-Levels/CAPE Certificates for first year Students • Records of Extra Curricular Activities (both on and off Campus) Students may apply for ALL Scholarships for which they are eligible using the general application form available online at: www.utechjamaica.edu.jm Click on Admissions/Student Financing/Financial Aid/ Forms/Scholarship Application Form. For scholarships with special application forms, the forms can be collected at the Financial Aid Office, Student Services Department The Halls of Residence at the University of Technology, Jamaica, have a total bed capacity of 482. In August, 2020, however, due to the protocols governing COVID-19, the Halls had to reduce its total bed capacity to 191; all single occupancy. Of the seven (7) Boarding facilities, there is one co-ed Hall, namely the Dennis Johnson Hall of Residence. The design of the other Halls is single gender as follows; Donald Farquharson Hall, and Hall F are male residences, while Amy Jacques Garvey Hall, Halls A, B, and E, are female residences. Each hall is equipped with all the basic amenities for your comfort, and is protected by an electronic security system; accessibility to the halls is attained through the use of an electronic access card. Several developmental programmes and activities are specially designed and calendared for the holistic development, and enjoyment of residents, following all Covid-19 protocols. Boarding fees are paid per semester; however, full payment can be made at the start of each academic year. Payment dates, inclusive of a payment schedule delineated by the University are communicated to accepted students. Accepted boarding applicants are required to pay a nonrefundable Boarding Commitment Fee (BCF), which is a percentage of the total boarding fee; this fee confirms the acceptance of your boarding offer. The annual boarding application period isOctober 1 to January 31. Students may complete this process on line, by accessing our website at www. utechjamaica.edu.jm. The completed application form must be submitted to the Accommodation Office by January 31; incomplete forms will not be evaluated. The Accommodation Unit assist unsuccessful boarding applicant, and persons desirous of living off campus with off campus housing.
