Sports Meal Programme In October 2011, the Welfare Unit assumed responsibility for the feeding programme for student athletes. Under this arrangement, student athletes from three sporting disciplines (Track & Field, Cricket and Table Tennis) are provided with at least one meal per day. For the 2015/16 review period 70 student athletes were provided with daily meals at a cost of $2.3 Million Dollars ($2,364,000). SUMMARY OF OPERATIONS At the close of the 2015/16 fiscal year, the total value of the Student Financial Support Services provided through the Department of Student Financing was over $1.6 Billion Dollars ($1,602,038,337.29); in the form of scholarships, sponsorship and welfare support services. See table 1.6 for details. Table 1.5 below indicates that only 47% of the students are self-financed; the other 53% are unable to fully fund their tertiary education without some form of financial support; whether from the public sector, private sector or N.G.O. This underscores the importance of public/private partnerships to the success of universities like UTech, Ja.
