The school continues to make an indelible mark in communities across the island through the Internship and Practicum module. These events span 3-8 months, for Public Health Nurses, Occupational Health and Safety and Environmental Health students. This is made possible by way of collaboration with the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Labour and Social Security and entities from the bauxite, construction, petroleum industries and the wider community. The students are required to go into the communities, identify a problem (for example, Solid Waste Management [Garbage disposal], waste water management, vector control, occupational hazards etc.) conduct research, develop a programme, and execute the programme by applying the appropriate problem-solving skill and techniques. The goal is to demonstrate how public health issues can be prevented and allow for the development of healthier communities. Master of Public Health Nine students were enrolled in the Master of Public Health course over the period.
