UTech Launches Region's First PHARM.D Degree

The University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech) has boosted its capacity to fill the country’s major existing gap for trained pharmacists with the launch of the post-baccalaureate Doctor of Pharmacy programme. The Doctor of Pharmacy programme which will commence in August 2010 had its official launching on June 8, 2010 at the Hilton Kingston. Data from the Pharmacy Society of Jamaica indicates that of the 150 posts required for registered pharmacists in the public service, only 45 are currently filled. Additionally, some parishes are still being serviced by only one registered pharmacist.

UTech Launches Caribbean’s First School of Entrepreneurship

The University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech) in responding to the urgent need to stimulate growth in the economy, on Tuesday, June 15, 2010 launched the Caribbean’s first School of Entrepreneurship, adding a new dimension to the academic training programmes in its Faculty of Business and Management. The School of Entrepreneurship is housed in the University’s Technology Innovation Centre which was established in 2002 at UTech to provide incubation support services for start-up micro, small and medium enterprises.

UTech/Marmicmon sign academic collaboration agreement for dental training programmes

The University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech) and Marmicmon Integrated Marketing and Communications, a body corporate under the laws of the Province of British Columbia, Canada signed an academic collaboration agreement on June 17, 2010 for the delivery of academic programmes in Dental Assisting and Dental Hygiene which will commence in the 2010/11 academic year through the University’s College of Health Sciences.

JNHT declares two national monuments at UTech

The Jamaica National Heritage Trust (JNHT) has declared the building housing Lillian’s Restaurant and The Ruins of Three Concrete Silos at the University of Technology, Jamaica as National Monuments effective May 21, 2010 and gazetted June 10, 2010. Both monuments are legacies of the Hope Farm School which had its genesis some one hundred years ago in 1910 at UTech’s 237 Old Hope Road Papine campus.

The UTech/JIM School of Advanced Management launched its Intermediate Securities Course at a ceremony held on March 31, 2010 in cooperation with the Bloomberg Platform - regarded as the most respected real-time financial information network in the world. Consultants Selected for UTech Enhancement Project Institutional Strengthening Initiatives

n Wednesday, April 28, 2010 the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech) signed contracts with three consultants who have been awarded contracts to complete five different consultancies.  This is an important part of the quality enhancement initiatives included in the Institutional Strengthening component of the UTech Enhancement Project.
