The University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech, Jamaica) seeks to identify a suitable candidate to fill the following post:


SENIOR ACCOUNTANT – PAYROLL & PAYABLES
(Level 9)

The Senior Accountant – Payroll and Payables is responsible for coordinating and directing the activities of the Payroll and Payables Unit, ensuring that all liabilities to employees and suppliers (local & foreign) are captured, recorded and settled on a timely basis in accordance with the policies and procedures of the University. The incumbent will also be responsible for the supervision of staff within the Unit and to ensure timely and accurate preparation and reconciliation of all Payroll and Payables accounts.

Requirements:

The preferred applicant should:
• be a Certified Professional Accountant (ACCA, or MSc. Accounting) or equivalent qualification in addition to Chartered Accountant status
• have at least three (3) years’ experience in a similar position

Additional Requirements:

The applicants should also have:
• Expert knowledge of financial and accounting principles and practices.
• Sound knowledge of payroll preparations, income tax laws and regulations governing statutory obligations.
• Knowledge of the payroll and accounts payables procedures, financial policies and procedures; as well as the Payroll and Payables Software
• Sound knowledge of auditing practices and principles; cost control and procedures relating to procurement.
• Knowledge of UTech, Jamaica Act 1999, Policies, Procedures, Ordinances and Regulations.
• Sound knowledge of Public Bodies Management and Accountability Act – 2001 and the Financial Administration Act
