The recipients are Mr Gilroy Gordon, final year BSc. Computer Science student and Mr Oneal Anguin, who earned the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science in 2010. Both Gordon and Anguin will pursue a Master of Science in Computing and Data Analytics (MCDA). The students had recently completed and passed all the rigorous SMU technical pre-screening and aptitude examinations to satisfy the primary admissions requirement to pursue the MCDA degree at SMU. The length of the MCDA programme will be fifteen (15) months. They will participate in taught classes, applied research, local Canadian industry internships, and academic research. The Jamaican QES scholars will also be involved in public service activities in Canada as a part of the planned cross- cultural and collaborative community engagements. The Canadian Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarship programme is a joint initiative of the Rideau Hall Foundation, Community Foundations of Canada and the Association of Universities Canada. The selected scholars were announced at a ceremony held on Monday, May 11, 2015 at UTech’s Papine campus. UTech, St. Mary’s University and Grace Kennedy Collaborate for Canadian Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarship Programme Internships Grace Kennedy which has expressed a keen interest in leading the use of technology to enhance agro- business processes will provide opportunities for internships with students from SMU over the next four years. Missouri State University proposed MOU Professors Jamaine Abidogun and William Wedenoja from the Missouri State University on the invitation of Mr Arnett Campbell, Head of the School of Information Technology (SCIT) visited UTech’s Main Campus on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 to explore possible areas of collaboration between Missouri State University and the University of Technology, Jamaica. Animation Competition Lecturers and students from The School of Computing and Information Technology, BSc. in Animation programme participated in the KingsTOON Festival 2016 Competition, which was held from March 12 – 13 2016. The event was used as a marketing opportunity and turned out to be a very successful public relations initiative. Thirty persons requested registration information on short courses, and there was also interest in the BSc in Animation programme. Project Management Advisement Session A Project Management forum facilitated by Ms Arvette Henry and Mrs Cicilyn Johnson, General Secretary of the Project Management Institute (PMI) was held in August 2015 with the aim was of educating the MSc.
