The University Lecturer is responsible for the teaching of his/her assigned instructional
load with non-instructional duties and obligations devoted to research and creative
activity, practice and professional service.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS


A.      SKILLS


QUALIFICATIONS:

1. At least a Masters degree/professional qualification in the relevant discipline.
2. Training in Education.


SPECIALISED KNOWLEDGE:
I. Knowledge of UTech's academic policies, procedures, regulations and ordinances
2. Knowledge of the principles and practices of curriculum development.
3. Knowledge and practice of excellent customer service.

SPECIALIALIZED TRAINING:
I. Research
2. Presentation techniques
3. Curriculum development
4. Proposal writing


SPECIALISED SKILLS & ABILITIES
1. Ability to undertake quality research in the area of specialization including
publications in refereed journals.
2. Excellent communication skills and teaching related administrative duties including
(setting and marking of examinations, invigilation duties and evaluation reports) in
order to effectively manage student related matters, contact with university staff and
professionals.
3. Ability to operate effectively as a team and to work harmoniously with colleagues and students of all cultures and backgrounds.
4. Ability to engage in student centered learning.


EXPERIENCE (TYPE AND AMOUNT):
At least five years (5) experience in teaching and curriculum development at the
undergraduate/postgraduate levels in a tertiary educational institution.

Managerial review of agreed objectives

B. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Curriculum and Content Develoment
1. Design courses of an appropriate level for the participating students.
2. Develop new courses to support the new or changing needs of the market in line
with the UTech policy directives.
3. Design appropriate lessons/workshops/exercises to suit the size and learning
needs of the group.
4. Assess students' performance using various assessment tools and methodologies.
5. Monitor and evaluate the success and relevance of a course, in order to identify
future developments and changes based on assessments.
6. Liaise with other agencies to develop appropriate education provision.
7. Develop and implement new methods of teaching in accordance with findings
from research and in accordance with UTech policies and procedures.
8. Design, prepare and clevelop teaching materials.
9. Prepare tests and examination papers for courses being delivered.
10. Mark scripts and submit grades according to the regulations of the University.
Research
11. Undertake research projects and actively contribute to the institution's
research profile.
12. Supervise students' research activities.
Community Service
13. Participate in the Faculty/University community service activities.
14. Coordinate students' community service projects in accordance with resources
made available.
15. Undertake involvement in the university's committees in accordance with
resources made available.
16. Establish collaborative links outside the university with industrial, commercial
and public organizations in accordance with the University's policy and resources
provided.
Teaching Administration
17. Co-ordinate and submit students' grades for student records as required for the
semester.
18. Prepare portfolio information for inspection visits and other quality assurance
exercises in accordance with resources made available.
19. Liaise with administrative staff regarding student enrolment, booking rooms,
and ordering equipment.
20. Prepare academic references for graduates in accordance with resources made
available.
Academic Advisement
21. Participate in student advisement as provided in the University's policy in
accordance with resources made available.
General 
22. Keep abreast of relevant changes in subject area(s) through continuous training or
appropriate reading and study.
23. Undertake continuous professional development and participate in staff training
activities.
24. Perform any other related duties as may be required by the Head of School or
Programme Director.


C.      AUTHORITY:

I. To recommend choice of textbooks and resource material for courses/modules.
2. To manage assigned classes within the university policy, regulations and
guidelines.
3. To recommend changes to curriculum to the Programme Director.


PERFORMANCE CRITERIA:
I. Quality of material used in lectures, tutorials and laboratories meet the university
standards.
2. Students are examined in subject areas against the criteria set out in course
outlines or handbooks.
3. Achievement of satisfactory review received from students, peers and
supervisors in performance evaluations.
4. Achievement of satisfactory review received from students assigned on the
advisement programme.
5. Timely submission of examination grades within ten (10) working days after an
examination sitting or any other period as agreed .
6. Professionalism, ethics, integrity and confidentiality are maintained at all times.
