The community service initiative embraces service by Full-time Students, the Alumni Association and all Staff Groups – Academic, Administrative and Support. It involves the deployment of academic, professional and technical expertise through the use of the university’s physical facilities.

Technology Innovation Centre (TIC)
Established in 2002, the Technology Innovation Centre (TIC) is a specialised unit of the Joan Duncan School of Entrepreneurship, Ethics and Leadership (JDSEEL), of the College of Business and Management (COBAM), all of which are a part of the University of Technology, Jamaica. The TIC supports the growth and development of early stage, technology driven, and technology enabled companies in the residential programme, as well companies from other industries in the associate and virtual programmes.
The TIC holds the distinction of being the English Speaking Caribbean’s first business Incubator and is seen as a unique institution with a vision of making a positive difference in the business community. It was developed out of the former Entrepreneurial centre, which was established at UTech in 1987.
As a business incubator, it is designed to assist businesses to become established and profitable during their start up or early development phase. The main benefit is its ability to substantially reduce the start up costs of enterprises and reduce the risk of small business failure.
Through our business incubator service, clients are offered the following range of services:
- Space - 25 air-conditioned and furnished suites to meet client needs, as well as 4 manufacturing bays
- Shared Facilities - The centre offers clients 24/7 access to its facility, receptionist and office services including those available from the Business Services Unit, conference and meeting rooms, internet access and networking opportunities
- Monitoring Services - There is one-to-one counselling from the Incubator Manager and where necessary, external consultant services are made available
- Training - These are offered through the Joan Duncan School of Entrepreneurship, Ethics and Leadership
- Use of Business address - Each client may utilise the incubator for their business address
- Collection of Mail - We will collect mail on your behalf and you pick up at any time convenient to you. Each client is provided with their own access to the building, which allows entry after regular working hours.

UTech D.E.L.E. Centre
There are currently more than 700 DELE centres in over 100 countries and now the University of Technology, Jamaica (Utech) is one of them.
The Diplomas in Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) are official qualifications certifying the degree of competence and mastery of Spanish, granted by Instituto Cervantes on behalf of the Ministry of Education of Spain.
The DELE Diplomas are internationally recognized and enjoy great prestige not only among public and private educational institutions and authorities, but also in the business world and chambers of commerce. They constitute a guarantee in assessing and evaluating linguistic competence in the Spanish language.

Legal Advice Centre
The University of Technology, Jamaica, (UTech) in keeping with its thrust as “the People’s University”, committed to the expansion of access to service, scholarship and research, established the UTech Legal Advice Centre in July 2011 to provide legal advice for members of the public who are socially, economically or otherwise disadvantaged.
The UTech Legal Advice Centre provides UTech Faculty of Law undergraduate students, under the supervision of an Attorney-at-Law, with practical training and skills in a social justice context while meeting the legal needs of the poor and disadvantaged. The free-of-cost services offered by the Centre include advising persons on how to handle legal, administrative and other problems, referring persons to organizations which provide social and other services and recommending the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution.
The UTech Legal Advice Centre currently operates from the Faculty of Law at the Papine campus on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1:00 pm. to 4:00 pm.
Scotiabank Chair
The Scotiabank Chair in Entrepreneurship and Development, University of Technology Jamaica was established on January 21, 2008. The Chair is held by Professor Rosalea Hamilton, who also joined the University as Vice President of the Office of Development in January 2008. The establishment and appointment of Professor Hamilton to the Chair represents UTech's commitment to jointly providing tertiary level institutional support and substantial financial support to entrepreneurs in micro, small and medium-sized enterprises and in enhancing the development prospects of Jamaica.
